Yokohama is a typical modern Japanese city, with a large metropolitan area; tall and modern buildings, huge shopping districts and amazing sights. But a city with more than 3.7 million inhabitants needs green places as well. All Japanese cities have a significant number of parks and Japanese gardens. These gardens are symbols of the country, as well as parts of Japanese culture.

Parks and gardens are important not only for the city’s inhabitants, but for tourists and for the environment as well. It is very cheering to see some green spots in the middle of an urban area. This article will present some of the most beautiful Japanese parks and gardens in Yokohama.

Odori Park

Odori Park is located in the center of Isezaki-cho. It has a very unique shape: even though the length of the park is more than a mile, it is narrow. Odori is closely related to arts, many sculptures are exhibited in different parts of the area. Thus, the park is divided into areas, taking into account the landscape and the sculptures of the sections.

Stone Plaza and Water Plaza are the most beautiful parts of Odori Park. The admission of the park is free and it can be visited at any time, because it is always open. The address is 2-1 Yamabukicho, Naka-ku, Yokohama. Odori is surely one of the most beautiful parks of Yokohama.

Grand Mall Park is located in the center of the modern Minato Mirai 21. As mentioned in the introductory part, it is very cheerful to find a park in the middle of an urban jungle. So is Grand Mall Park, a green blob on Minato Mirai’s map. Yokohama Art Plaza is the center of the garden and also home of several sculptures.

With tall trees and shining green grass it is a perfect place for a walk, but for a picnic as well. It is open all day, always waiting for nature-loving visitors. The address of Grand Mall Park is 2 Minato Mirai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama and the admission is free.

Kodomo-no-Kuni is a perfect place for a family, not only because it means ‘children’s land’ but also because of the many attractions of the place. Besides the plaza, a zoo, outdoor pools, fishing and boating spots and a small farm waits for the visitors as well. In this place the adults can have fun together with their children.

The address of Kodomo-no-Kuni is 700, Nara-cho, Aoba-ku Yokohama, 227-0036 and it is open between 10.00-17.00. The place is closed on Wednesdays and on the New Yeas Holidays. The price of the tickets varies from 100 to 600 Yen. Children can enter for 100 Yen, elementary and junior high school students for 200 Yen and the adults for 600. The entrance for senior citizens is 300 Yen.
