Sapporo, the most important city of Hokkaido is always related to winter activities, like the Sapporo Snow Festival, which is organized every year, or the Winter Olympic Games of 1972. Although Winter and the Snow Festival attract more tourists than the warmer seasons, Sapporo has its beauties in Spring and Summer as well.

Shinei Ji is one of the most vivid and most colorful Buddhist temples in Japan. It is located in the center of Susukino district in Sapporo. Several religious events and festivals are held at Shinei Ji throughout the year; if you are lucky, you can catch one of these wonderful events as well. The full name of the temple is Naritasan Sapporo Betsui Shisei Ji, referring to the fact that it is a Shingon school in the mountains of Narita.

Shinei ji, one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Sapporo is open for tourists every day, on national holidays as well. The address is Minami 7 Nishi 3, Chuo-ku, Sapporo.


Chuo Ji

Chuo Ji is a Buddhist temple located in the central area of Sapporo. Like all the other Buddhist temples in Sapporo, this one is not famous for its amazing architecture, but for its simple but unique style and calm atmosphere. It is always open for the curious tourists, but be careful: after entering a Buddhist temple you should always be calm and quiet.

The most interesting fact about Chuo Ji is that they hold Zen Meditation (Zazen) and calligraphy (ikebana) courses on every Sunday morning, for an admission of 500 Yen. If you decide o visit Chuo Ji, you will have a wonderful and peaceful afternoon between the walls of this sacred temple. The address is Minami 6 Nishi 2, Chuo-ku, Sapporo.


Hokkai Ji

Hokkai Ji is another pearl of Buddhist temples in Sapporo. Located in the central area of the city, it is very close to approach. Its simple and stylish walls will be unforgettable memories for everyone. This temple can be visited 9.00 and 17.00 on weekdays. It is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
