Tokyo, the capital is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in Japan. It offers thousands of places to choose from. Even a romantic walk on the streets of Tokyo can give you wonderful memories and experiences. Dinners with candlelights are very popular choices, especially at the restaurants of Tokyo Tower or Tokyo Skytree. The garden of the Imperial Palace is one of the most romantic places in Tokyo, so if you spend your honeymoon here, I recommend you a long walk around the paths of the garden.

Why Tokyo? It offers more romantic destinations than any other Japanese city. Besides, here you can find thousands of hotels for your accommodation. Some hotels provide romantic things as well: trips around Tokyo, breakfast in bed, comfy rooms with hot tubs/jacuzzi, etc.

Kyoto is the second most popular city from the point of view of honeymoon destinations. A romantic getaway around the Buddhist Temples or the Geisha Districts of Kyoto can give wonderful memories for both of you. The Zen Gardens, which belong to the Buddhist Temples are one of the most visited places in the city. The temples with the most romantic garden and atmosphere are: Kinkaku-ji, Kozan-ji and Ninna-ji.

Just like Tokyo, Kyoto also has an Imperial Palace with an Imperial Garden and this one also a must-see place for newlywed couples. In Kyoto you should also schedule an afternoon to visit the Japanese castles of the city, or, at least one of them. Definitely, Nijo Castle is the most popular choice of the newlywed couples.

Why Kyoto? This city has more UNESCO heritage sites than any other Japanese city, so it offers thousands of attractions to choose from. The Imperial Palace and Imperial Villas (Sento, Katsura, Shugakuin) all worth a visit.

Kyoto Botanical Garden can also be the place of a romantic experience, but it is the city itself and its traditional Japanese atmosphere will make this holiday unforgettable for both of you. If you decide to spend your honeymoon in Kyoto, I can guarantee that you won’t regret it.
